A wedding can be a ceremony where 2 people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding parties involve an exchange of marriage vows because of the couple, presentation of any gift (offering, rings, symbolic item, flowers, money), and also a public proclamation of marriage by an expert figure or celebrant. Special wedding garments are sometimes worn, as well as the ceremony is usually followed by being married reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from religious texts or literature can also be commonly included in the ceremony, along with superstitious customs springing up form Ancient Rome. Some cultures have adopted the regular Western custom with the white wedding, when a bride wears a white bridal dress and veil. This tradition was popularized over the marriage of Queen Victoria. Some say Victoria's choice of the white gown could have simply been a sign of extravagance, but might have also been influenced through the values she held which emphasized sexual purity. Within the modern 'white wedding' tradition, a white dress and veil are unusual ways for a woman's second or subsequent wedding. The use of the wedding ring has been part of religious weddings in Europe and America, even so the origin from the tradition is unclear. One possibility will be the Roman belief from the Vena amoris, which had been believed to be a circulation system that ran on the fourth finger (ring finger) straight to the heart. Thus, any time a couple wore rings within this finger, their hearts were connected. Historian Vicki Howard highlights that the belief within the "ancient" quality in the practice is probably a modern invention. "Double ring" ceremonies may also be a modern practice, a groom's music band not appearing within the United States till the early twentieth century. The wedding party is often and then wedding reception or being married breakfast, the place that the rituals can include speeches through the groom, best man, father from the bride and perhaps the bride, the newlyweds' first dance being a couple, along with the cutting connected with an elegant wedding cake.
